The Teacher’s Creed

Page 24 · The Teacher’s Creed

I chase no perfect method. I gather what works.

  • I ask why before I ask how.
  • I make meaning clear before I ask for words.
  • I lower fear before I raise expectations.
  • I learn every child’s name — and something they love.
  • I aim each lesson at a target I can see.
  • I never ask “do you understand?” — I watch.
  • I repeat without boring, and play without wasting time.
  • I let silence do its quiet work.
  • I correct by inviting, not by shaming.
  • I measure gently, and often.
  • I keep learning — and I never teach alone.

Teach the child, not the class.
