A lesson without a clear target is a walk without a destination. Before you teach, write an objective that is clear, measurable and attainable — and aim at two things at once: content and language.

Weak “Students will talk about their summer.”
Strong “Students will say three things they did in summer, using the past tense, in full sentences.”

The second tells the child exactly what success looks like — and lets you see the moment they reach it. Then do one more thing: tell the children the objective. You’ll be surprised how much they want to know where they’re going.
